Research Interests

No matter how intelligent machines become, they will still need to interact with humans. A machine that understands when its user is frustrated versus relaxed, and changes its behavior accordingly, will be better accepted by its human user, and will indeed be more effective at its job. In other words, we are interested in creating artificial intelligences that are smart and kind.
